Unfortunately, it's unclear why one even needs to have a wordpress.com account in order to use this thing locally and connect it to ones' own Wordpress site, hosted elsewhere. This makes no sense. On top of that, when using Apple login, one must use the actual email address used, as creating a new account using an hide-my-email iCloud address specifically isn't supported unlike in most other apps. You can do this in the browser beforehand, but then you find the next obstacle in that you have to connect your site to the wordpress.com account, even as this isn't hosted there. Why does free have to be awkward? It's not selling wordpress.com as a host, that for sure. Or maybe it's just them being honest.
I just deleted it.
